Malacological museum
Malacological museum in Makarska displays the shells of sea moluscs. This museum resulted from the systematic and self-sacrificing work of the theologian and natural scientist Fra Jure Radic and the support and cooperation of many people, scholars, museum workers, collectors, and especially his faithful colleague Fra Franjo Carev. There are more than 3000 samples of exposed shells not just from the Adriatic sea but also tropical and subtropical seas and are attractive because of their specific colors and shapes.
Croatian shrine Vepric
Croatian shrine Vepric, sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. The natural cave as well as the surrounding landscape formed by hills and the creek running in the valley, greatly reminds pilgrims of the famous sanctuary of Lourdes in France, where Our Lady appeared 18 times to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. Because of its natural beauty and peaceful surroundings, this sanctuary is visited by a great number of pilgrims through the whole year. The most important dates for pilgrimages are: February 11th, March 25th, August 15th, September 7-8th.
Biokovo nature park
Nature park Biokovo got its name after the snow-whiteness. Biokovo Nature Park spans across nearly 20 000 hectares of mountainous terrain. It is known that 7 amphibian and 21 reptile species live there. There are also 1500 plant species among which many are endemic like Biokovo bell and Centaurea gloriosa. With the second highest mountain peak in Croatia this mountain is only 5 km of air distance from the Adriatic sea and because of that is the mountain closest to the sea in the whole Mediterranean. From the mountain peak it is possible to see the islands and even Italy that is 250 km away. There are 400 speleological objects and the 839 m deep hole Mokre noge is the fourth deepest oft he kind in Croatia.There are more than 87 churches and chapels on the Biokovo mountain and the church St. Jure located on the peak of the same name is the highest in Croatia and open for visitors.
Many travel agencies organize excursions to the mountain and it is really an unforgettable experience to breath fresh mountain air and enjoy the view in the morning and to relax on the most beautiful beaches on the whole Riviera in the afternoon.
Night club "DEEP"
Numerous tourist guides and foreign magazines mention this night club as the most beautiful on the whole Adriatic coast. The night club in the cave from World War II is located on Osejava peninsula close to the sea. There are not many natural locations of this kind in the world and that is why it is not unusual that tourist choose Makarska and this club for crazy summer events.
The club consists of two parts, the already mentioned terrace with natural sound insulation and suitable for parties till morning and open terrace with a view of the sea, Adriatic islands Hvar and Brač, the main town promenade under beautiful night lights. The terrace is ideal for all those who avoid summer crowd and enjoy drinking cocktails close to the sea and watching beautiful town lights.
The club is open all day and during the summer hosts numerous world-famous DJs.
